Most search engines break up their results pages into two different areas: Organic listings and Paid for Listings. Organic listings are sites that have been spidered and indexed by Search Engines (Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc). The relative information that is collected by the spiders is saved in the search engine's massive database of web pages. Search Engines use this information to help determine the positioning of organic listings. On a regular basis, search engines process the information collected through their algorithm (the equation which determines which website will be #1 for a specific search term and which will be #100). Once the algorithm determines the rankings, the search engines post these results on a search page.
